Abstract

Twenty four growing Saidi l ambs (6 months age) were divided randomly into four groups to st udy the effect of level of ammonium perchlora te on growth rate and efficiency of food uti lization. Supplemenation of ammonium p < /strong>erchlo rate were added at 0,25, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight for groups I, II, III & IV respective ly. The treatments prolonged for 3 months. Body weight as well as wooll production were studied. Besides, N- balances were carried out for two animals in each group. It was detected that ammonium perchlorate sup plementation at a level of 25 mg beneficially affected the growth rate of lambs. Also, at this level, wool production increased by 16.99% of the control. The difference between treatments were significant only in growth ra te. Digested N and N retained increased sig nificantly by adding 25 mg ammonium perchlora te. Ammonium perchlorate at 25 mg/kg body wei ght seemed to be the more suitable level of supplementation for growing lambs.
