The kidneys of 9 buffalo foetuses ( crown-runp length from 8 to 42 cm) with cystic dilatation of the comblical cord were subjected to histopathological study. The lesions consisted of destruction of the renal tubules and glameruli at the cortico-edullary junction with the development of cavities of microscopical size, and dilatation and epithelial destruction of the convoluted tubules at the inner cortical zone. The sig nificance of these lesions in prenatal and postnatal life is discussed.
