During summer 1988, natural outbreaks of poxvirus infection in turkeys with severe cutaneous and ocular lesions in Sohag Province was described. Three poxvirus-isolates were recovered. All virus-isolates were propagated and titrated on chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of 11-day-old embryon ated chicken eggs (ECE). The biological and some of the physico-chemical properties of the virus isolates were studied. The host spectrum of the isolated virus was studied through experimental infection of one-day old chicks, chickens, turkeys, ducks and pigeons. The gross and micro scopic feature in experimental infection were described.
