The gonadotropic cells within the pars distalis of 33 mature female buffaloes, including normal cycling animals and animals suffering from ovarian inactivity were histochemically investigated. Using performic acid-Alcian blue-periodic acid Schiff-orange G (PEA-AB-PAS-OG) stain, the FSH- and LH- cells were differentiated and identified. The FSH and LH pituitary contents were also immunologically assayed. During Proestrus, the FSH-cells were increased in size and number and constituted about 14.4% of the total cell count. The FSH/LH ratio was 1.62. During estrus, the LH-cells were highly increased in amount (12.2%) and the FSH/LH ratio was 0.26. In diestrus, the FSH-cells percentage was 12.6%, while the LH-cell percentage was 10.4% with a FSH/LH ratio of 0.65. In animals affected with inactive ovaries, two contrastic data could be obtained. These animals either show a high FSH cell % and content with a negligible LH cell % and content, or a high LH cell % and content with a negligibel FSH cell % and content. It can concluded that for proper treatment of buffaloes suffering from inactive ovaries, the FSH/LH ratio should be restored to that ratio at proestrus.

The effect of long-term treatment with various doses of TP or hCG on the prepuce and preputial glands was studied on 33 male rabbits of pure Bouscat breed. The preputial epidermis, sebaceous and tubular glands exhibited a significant dose- related increase in activity in rabbits treated with various doses of testesterone propionate (TP) other than those treated with human chorionic gonadotropins (hCG). In the preputial epidermis, the stratum cornium was greatly increased in thickness, while the stratum basale showed aggravated mitotic activity. Also the sebaceous glands were enlarged and activated. Moreover, the tubular glands presented a significant increment in the diameter of their secretory end epieces as well as in the hight of the glandular epithelium.

Determination of blood testosterone level in three groups of male rabbits treated with three dose levels of thyroxine 6.5, 13 and 19.5 mg/kg body weight was performed. The thyroxine caused Leydig cell hyperplasia. The hyperplastic Leydig cells were evaluated to be biologically active by high Sertoli cell ratio of the spermato genic cell cycle. Although the testosterone level of the blood was decreased and uncorrelated with thyroxine injection, Leydig cells were proposed to secrete intratesticular testosterone.

One hundred and thirty swiss-albino mice of 3-4 weeks old were each inoculated intraperitoneally (1/p) with a fixed dose of RVE virus.
The first symptoms started to appear after 42 hours. The course of the disease progressed and the symptoms became apparent between 54 to 102 hors, then started to decline by 114 hours. Mice surviving at the end of the experiment did not manifest any clinical symptoms.
Livers, spleens, brains, kidneys, hearts, lungs, intestines and skeletal muscles were collected at predetermined intervals for quantitative assay of the virus content in the verious organs. Virus content as detected by titration in CER cell cultrues was higher in the liver than the heart, spleen, lung, kidney and less in the brain. Yet, virus could not be isolated from the intestines and skeletal muscles of infected mice.

Data presented in this study indicates that the injection of a single dose of 7.5x108 of c.ovis treated with 1 : 750000 crystal violet has a reasonable immuno-potentiating effect in sheep which enables them to show a measurable resistance to experimental inoculation with virulent sheep-pox virus. This covis induced resistance which was highest at 21 days post inoculation and dropped sharply thereafter.

According to the commerical process, fresh A.nurse was mixed with 10% NaCl. The effect of NaCl as a means of salting process on the component of the fish were determined at 3,10,20 and 25 days storage. The crude protein was affected by the salting process and decreased from 18.11% to 16.38% at the end of storage period, while the fat content increased from 6.5 to 12.5%. Salting process decreases the water content of fish and accompany by rise in NaCl, the percentage of sodium chloride in water phase and ash%. Although the salting process had a marked effect on the component of the fish, yet salted fish is considered a source of protein.

Clinical signs of rickets were detected in young goats. These included stiffness in gait, tendency of affected animal to lie down, deformity in the bone of fore-limbs, enlargement of both knee joint and costoch ondral junction, while subclinical rickets showed only signs of anorexia and stunted growth rate.
Haematological changes included significant decrease in haemoglobin content, packed cell volume and total erythrocytic count in both clinical and subclinical forms of rickets. Leucocytosis was observed only in goats with clinical rickets.
Biochemicaly, hypoproteinaemia, hypocalcaemia, hypophosphataemia as well as decrease in serum zinc level were observed in both clinical and subclinical rickets, while serum alkaline phosphatase and transamin ases activities were increased. Serum magnesium, copper and iron decreased significantly in clinically affected group. While sodium and potassium lies within normal in both affected groups.
In this trial increased Ca/P ratio (above 2) was taken as an indication for the detection of both clinical and the subclinical rickets.

This work was carried out to investigate the parasitological and bacter iological causes of respiratory diseases in camels, as well as, the drug of choise used for treatment in both. The blood parameters revealed leucocytosis in both the parasitic and bacterial types, with significant eosinophilia in the former case and significant neutrophilia in the latter. The biochemical analysis showed significant lowered calcium in serum of the bacterial infection, while serum total proteins, albumin and globulin, iron and blood glucose levels significantly dropped in both bacterial and verminous causes. On the other hand, serum enzyme activities exhibited high values in both affections. On isolation, the most prevalent causes were Staph. aureus, Staph. citrus, Strept. zoo-epidemicus and Pseud. areugenosa. as microorganisms, while Dicty caulus larvae as a parasitic causes.
Citarine and Terramycin 100 were used for treatment of verminous and bacterial affections, respectively.

Anticoagulated blood samples were collected from 40 goats. Fifteen of them were proved to be aborted at late stages of pregnency due to infection with chlamydia. Haematological studies were carried out on infected and non infected groups. The obtained results were as follow: There was a highly significant (P/ 0.01) decrease in total erythrocytic count and haemoglobin concentration in aborted group (infected group in comparison with other groups. Packed cell volume (P.C.V. in the infected group showed a significant decrease (P/ 0.05). The infected groups showed macrocytic normochromic anaemia.
Regarding total leucocytic count there was highly significant decrease in early parturient group while there was no changes in other groups. Differential leucocytic count revealed that there was a neutrophilia associated with lymphopenia in the blood of the aborted group.

Tracheal resection with end-to-end anastomosis was accepted as an ideal method for correction of many congenital and acquired surgical affections of the trachea. Clinical attempts for tracheal grafting had been plagued by infection, ingrowth of fibrous tissue, migration of the graft and evintial stenosis (GREENBERG, 1960 and HARRINGTON et al., 1962).
End-to-end tracheal anastomosis after small or massive tracheal ring resection was indicated for congenital localized tracheal stenosis, diverticulum, collapse, perforation, rupture, fracture, fistulae, tracheo megally and primary or secondary neoplasms (SCHEBITZ, 1960, SHAFF, 1963, PERELMAN, 1972, GRILLO, 1973, SCOTT, 1978, BEAUMONT, 1982 and BEDFORD, 1982).
The amount of cervical tracheal ring resection stated in the available literature in dogs ranged from 4-23 ring (FERGUSON, et al., 1950 and DLL MAN and BOJRAB, 1981).
Many suture patterns were indicated for end-to-end anastomosis (DEDO, et al., 1969, ORDON, 1973, KOTAKE and GRILLO, 1976 and LAU, et al., 1980). The aim of the present study is to determine the possible amount of tracheal ring resection as well as to select the most suitable pattern for trcheal anastomosis in dogs.

Nine donkeys of both sex were used in this investigation. The animals were classified into 3 groups (each of 3 animals). Group I received a mixture of chloral hydrate and combelen. Group Il received a combi nation of chloral hydrate and novalgin. Group III received chloral hydrate and thiopental sodium. Temperature, pulse and respiration rates before and after administration of the anaesthetics were record ed. Clinical signs were also demonstrated.
Blood samples were collected for blood gases and acid-base balance analysis. Blood pH, Pco (mm. Hg), Po (mm. Hg), Hco (mmol/L), Tco (mmol/L) and base excess (mmol/L) were measured using Corning pH - blood gas analyser 168.
Animal anaesthetized by the combined use of combelen and chloral hydrate showed clinically the best desired depth of anaesthesia as onset was rapid without injection discomfort. The anaesthetic period was longer and continued for about 11/2 hour. However their use was accompanied with greater alteration in acid-base values than in the other used anaesthetic combinations.

In the fourth group, 8 ewes were treated with 25 mg. progesterone on day 0,7 and 14 of the estrous cycle and 750 1.U. PMSG was administer ed on day 7 or 14 with two laparotomized and four bred. A repeat trial was conducted in group 3 with 12 ewes half of which received 1000 J.U. and the rest half 1500 J.U. PMSG. All the 12 ewes in this group were naturally bred including the 6 laparotomized ones. There was suppression of overt oestrus in all the treated groups, the maxi mum suppression being observed in group 3. Ovulation was 100% in the progesterone treated group (3 & 4) and 81.8% in the LHRH treated group but there was no lambing in group 3 and only 50% in group 4 against 62% in group 2 and 66.7 in group 1. Oestrous duration and cycle length was decreased in LHRH treated group and increased in progesterone treated group in comparison to control. Ovulation time from onset of oestrus was 47 and 51 hours respectively in group 3 and 4 in comparison to similar values of 28 hours in group 1 and 2. Superovulation was not detected in any of the treated groups.

Bacteria and Fungi present in the vagina and external os of the cervix were studied in a total of 75 ewes during late pregnancy, puerperium and cases suffering from infertility. The percentagte of Staph. aureus, Strep. Pyogenes, E.coli and Ps. aeruginosa were higher during puerperium than during late pregnancy. Candida spp. were the main cause of infertility, while the revealed Rizopus, Mucor and Absida were found at high percentage during puerperium. Candida Krusei and Candida tropicalis recovered from infertile cases were able to produce phosphatase enzyme while similar strains isolated from the normal animals were not.

An outbreak of infectious Laryngeotracheitis (ILT) occured among a flock of laying hens (Lohmann's Mothers) of 34 weeks old at Kalama, Qualyobia governorate. Affected birds manifested symptoms of respiratory distress, gasping and bloody exudates from the nasal passages togther with a significant decrease in egg production and hatchability and a non significant decrease in fertility and abnormal dead embryos.
ILT virus could be isolated from samples collected during the course of the disease (nasal exudates as well as tracheal swabs and lung tissues). The isolated virus when inoculated in chicken embryos produc ed pock lesions on the CAM'S and it could be propagated in CER cells producing multinucleated giant cells and intranuclear inclusion bodies.
Susceptible birds of 16 weeks old could be experimentally infected with the isolated virus with re-isolation of ILT virus. Intranuclear inclusion bodies could be seen in epithelial cells lining the respiratory tract as early as 14 hours post-infection.
Specific antibodies could be detected in sera of recovered birds by using both the agar gel precipitation (AGP) and neutralization (SNT) tests.

Supression of immune response to Newcastle disease vaccines is the main result in this investigation with Eimeria tenella infection especially one day old. Some coccidial stages were also seen in the bursal duct connecting the bursa with the cloaca. Histopathological sections from bursa Fabrici appear free from coccidial stages. On the other hand sections from the cecal wall revealed haemorrhages and necrosis but end with healing and recovery in chicks infected one day old. Relation between Newcastle disease haemagglutinating inhibiting (HI) antibody titres and cecal coccidiosis were also discussed.

The effect of live Gumboro disease virus vaccination of 12 day-old chicks on their immune response to Newcastle disease vaccines was studied. The gumboro disease vaccinal virus had a suppressive effect on the immune response of chicks as measured by haemagglutinating inhibiting antibody titres and the protection rate using the challenge test. It can be concluded that the live Gumboro vaccinal virus has an immunosuppressive effect on the immune response of chicks to Newcastle vaccines.

A total of eight hundred and sex serum samples were collected from various flocks of different ages, breeds and raised under differ ent systems, either laying flocks or broiler breeders, during the year of 1984 and 1985 for serological examination against Gumboro disease virus infection using agar gel-precipitation test. Four hundred and twenty three of these sera were positive with percentage of 52.48. The percentage of reactors in birds reared on floor was 45. 67, while those reared in cages was 58.45. All tested breeds and flocks were positive serologically against Gumboro disease virus, with varying percentage.

Agar gel-precipitation test was used for detection of Reo-virus precipi tins in sera from 27 laying or broiler breeder flocks during the year, 1984. 66.67% of the tested flocks showed positive reactors with a flock incidence ranging from 12.5 to 36.73% and total incidence of 18.33%. The floor reared flocks showed higher incidence of reactors (20.73%) than the cage reared ones (12.95). All the tested chicken breeds showed reactors to Reo-virus infection.

Doses of 100 ug up to 15 mg ivermectine/kg b.w. were given to groups of chicken and prooved to be non toxic and caused no abnor mal signs of mortality. The pharmacological evaluation revealed a non significant changes in the physiological functions of different systems in rats and mice. Doses of 200, 400X800 ug/kg b.w. had no effect on egg production, the quality of eggs remained unchanged externally and internally. The drug had no deleterious effect on fertili ty and hatchability rates.

Groups of chickens were experimentally infested with equal doses of embryonated Ascaridea eggs. Birds were treated with a single oral dose of 100, 200, or 400 ug/kg. b.w. at 12th day (tissue phase) or 40th day-post infection (mature worms). The drug was uneffecient in controlling larval stages in tissue phase. All doses prooved to be highly effective against mature worms and lead to 95-100% elemination of the mature worm. A small dose of 100 ug/kg. b.w. is recommended, repeating of the dose is essential for elemination of infection.

Severe cases naturally infested with sarcoptic and psoroptic mange were subjected to treatment with a single subcutanous dose of 200 ug/kg. b.w. Therapy resulted in clinical cure and complete elemination of the parasite. Rabbits infested experimentally with different stages of psoroptic mite produced characteristic mange lesions, while experi mental induction of the disease failed in the previously treated rabbits.
