The muscles of the leg region consist of craniolateral group and caudo medial group. The former group includes Mm.peroneus (Fibularis) tertius,
longus, tibialis cranialis, peroneus longus an<strong>d </strong><strong>ext</strong><strong>ensor </strong>extensor digitorum
lateralis. The Mofibularis tertius is the mos<strong>t </strong><strong>cranial </strong><strong>m</strong><strong>uscle </strong><strong>of </strong>digitorum
the leg and its fleshy belly is firmly attached and overlapping the fleshy part of the M.extensor digitorum longus.
The tendon of insertion of the extensor digitorum longus is divided into two unequal parts, small medial and large lateral one, before passing under the proximal tarsal retinaculum. The M.peroneus longus of the camel which is grossly fleshy, comes from the lateral tibial condyle.
The caudomedial group includes, Mm.flexor digitorum profundus and poplit eus. The M.flexor digitorum profundus consists of Mm.flexor digitorum longus and tibialis caudalis only.

The maxillary artery is the direct continuation of the external carotid artery. It can be divided into two parts by the alar foramen; the maxillary artery terminates by detaching the descending palatine and continues as the infraorbital artery. In the present work the lesser palatine artery originates from the maxillary artery and the lateral nasal artery originates from the infraorbital artery.

The bivariate size allometry of Chrysichthys auratus was estimated by the application of the power function equation of HUXLEY (1932) on certain - morphometric characters in terms of its parameters. The bivariate allometric concept was expanded for multivariate data by JOLICOEUR'S (1963) approach and the presence of multivariate allometry was revealed by ANDERSON'S (1963) test. Also, the allometric nature in the morphomet ric indices of the species studied was determined and discussed. According to the patterns of bivariate and multivariate allometry exhibited, <strong>se</strong><strong>xual </strong>dimorphism and racial differences in Chrysichthys auratus were evident.

This study was performed on 50 adult normal male albino rats. They were classified into 5 groups: The fir<strong>st </strong><strong>gr</strong><strong>oup </strong><strong>ser</strong><strong>ve</strong><strong>d </strong><strong>a</strong><strong>s </strong>control. The sec ond, third and fourth groups were injected intraperitonealy with a daily dose (0.18 mg/200 g body weight) of diazepam for 10, 15 and 21 days respectively. The fifth group was injected with a daily dose (2 mg/200 g body weight) of midazolam for 10 days. <strong>Blood </strong><strong>sa</strong><strong>mple</strong><strong>s </strong><strong>w<em>e</em>r</strong><strong>e </strong><strong>taken </strong><strong>f</strong><strong>r</strong><strong>om </strong><strong>o</strong><strong>rbita</strong><strong>l </strong><strong>s</strong><strong>inus</strong><strong>es </strong><strong>and </strong><strong>were </strong><strong>s</strong><strong>ubjected </strong><strong>t</strong><strong>o </strong>biochemical assays for T3, T4 and TSH. Sepcimens from thyroid glands <strong>wer</strong><strong>e </strong><strong>ta</strong><strong>k</strong><strong>en </strong><strong>f</strong>or histological study using semithin sections.<br /> The results of the study revealed that there is a transient effect of dia zepam and midazo<strong>lam </strong><strong>on </strong><strong>the </strong><strong>rats </strong><strong>ser</strong><strong>um </strong><strong>lev</strong>els of thyroid hormones. This led to an increase in serum levels of thyroxine after 10 days of drug administration and reached its maximal level after 15 days and returned to its normal level by 21 days of diazepam therapy. On the other hand, TSH showing a significant decrease after 10 and 15 days and returned to its more or less normal levels by 21 days of the drug administration. Histological studies showed signs of thyroid activity represented by increase in: the number of thyroid follicles per field, cell height, nuclear size and vascularity of the gland.

Haemoglobin levels, total and differential white blood cells count, platelets count, blood urea, total plasma protein and percentages of serum albumin and globulins were determined in 100 patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in an attempt to investigate their haematological status and detect any abnormality that could occur in those patients with chronic <strong>s</strong><strong>e<em>v</em></strong><strong>ere </strong><strong>course </strong>of the disease.
Mild anaemia, leukocytosis with significant increase of neutrophils (81%), thrombocytopenia, hypoalbuminaemia together with hypergammaglobulinaemia were detected in these patients. It apears that the compensatory hyperplas ia of the spleen in non immune persons with chronic severe untreated cases is the possible factor which might influence the blood cells. Leukocy tosis is contributed to the concurrent sepsis of the lesions.
In addition, serum immunoglobulins IgA, IgG, IgM and Ige levels were deter mined in 22 Egyptians and 28 Indians selected from the patient populations <strong>t</strong><strong>o </strong><strong>a</strong><strong>s</strong><strong>se</strong><strong>ss </strong><strong>their </strong><strong>immune </strong><strong>system</strong><strong>. </strong>IgG, IgM and Ige levels were found to be significantly increased (P
0.001, for each). These changes could be explained as the body's physiolo <strong>gical </strong><strong>immune </strong><strong>respons</strong><strong>e </strong><strong>to </strong>chronic infection. So, Immunoglobulins did not have any clinical relevance as diagnostic markers <em>f</em>or screening these patients, which is mainly due to their low specificity, but it may provide important information-in addition to blood studies - in monitoring response to therapy and predicting relapse of the cured cases or its development into other forms.

Twenty-seven Saidi lambs (8W, 20.37 + 0.<em>7</em>5; age 8 mo) were randomly assigned to three treatment groups: a control group (C) <strong>receiving </strong>no Kl supplement, and two supplemented groups (L) and (H) receiving 40 and 80 mg Kl/head/wk, respectively. All groups were fed a concent rate pelleted diet ad libitum during the 84-d experimental period. Blood samples were collected from all lambs twice a day (0900 h and 1600 h) at days 29,57 and 82 of the experiment. <strong>Treatment </strong>did not affect (P 0.10) feed intake, average daily gain (ADG) or feed efficiency of lambs. However, feed intake tend<strong>ed </strong><strong>to </strong><strong>d</strong><strong>ecrease </strong>with increasing Kl level and ADG tended to be higher in L than C lambs, whereas H lambs gained the lowest over the whole experimental period. Treatment did not affect (p 0.10) erythrocyte counts, hemo globin (Hb) concentration or packed cell volume (PCV). Erythrocyte counts and PCV were higher at 0900 than 1600 h. Total number of leukocytes was lower (P 0.10) only at d 29 of the trial in H lambs than either C or L lambs. Serum total protein, albumin and globulin tended to be higher, whereas cholesterol tended to be lower in H lambs than Cor Llambs, but differences were not significant (P 0.10). Body temperture, respiratory and pulse rates did not differ among <strong>treatments</strong><strong>. </strong>

All the isolated organisms (40 strains) were tested for their antibiotic sensitivity and there was variance of resistance. Most of the isolated Gram-positive bacilli were sensitive to ampicillin, chloramphenicol and tobramycin, while recovered Gram-negative bacilli were sensitive to gentamicin, chloramphenicol and erythromycin. Preventive measures to avoid bacterial pneumonia in dogs were discussed.

Scanning electrom microscopy of mature Fasciola gigantica warms revealed no spines on the tegument of the oral and ventral suckers, the shoulders and the lateral sides of the body.<br /> The spines located on the dorsal surface were tongue shaped, while those on the ventral side were scale-like in appearance. Each spine was divided at its tip into small pointed secondary spines forming a fringe like structure. The number of these secondary spines was about 10-15 per each primary one at the level of the anterior part of the body and increased to about 30-75 at the middle part of the ventral surface.<br /> The differences in the morphological picture of the tegument of the dorsal and ventral surfaces of Fasciola gigantics might be used for disting uishing it from Fasciola hepatica.

This study deals with transmission exsperiments of Trichostrongylu<strong>s </strong><strong>probo </strong>lurus from camels to lambs. The effect of this worm on lamb<strong>s </strong><strong>was </strong><strong>studied</strong><strong>. </strong>No apparent clinical signs or post-mortem lesions were detected. Haemato logical parameters showed moderate eosinophilia, but no signs o<strong>f </strong><strong>ana</strong><strong>emia </strong>were observed during the course of infection. The morphology of the adult worm and the infective lar<strong>v</strong><strong>ae </strong><strong>was </strong><strong>a</strong><strong>l</strong><strong>s</strong>o studied. The efficacy of Ivermectin (lvomec-MSD), administered subcutaneously <strong>at </strong><strong>a </strong><strong>dose </strong><strong>r</strong><strong>ate </strong>of 200 mg/kg body weight to these experimentaily infected lambs against Trichostrongylus probolurus was investigated. The drug was found to be 100% effective against this worm.

A new echinostome cercaria has been collected from Biomphalaria alexan drina inhabiting the River Nile infront of the High Dam (Aswan, Upper Egypt). The morphological characters are basically that of the genus Echino stoma in general, but new additional structures were observed, described and illustrated. As a result, it was considered a hitherto unknown cercaria, to which the name Cercaria aswani sp. nov. is proposed. Moreover, Aswan is considered a new locality for this parasite. Experimental trials to infect rats, ducklings and chickens with encysted form was not successful. Further trials were recommended to obtain the adult worms and to study the compl ete life cycle.

The present investigation recorded the levels of the industrial pollutant (fluorine) and the related elements (phosphorus, calcium, sodium and potassium) in both macro and microenveronment of cattle in <strong>ten</strong><strong>' </strong><strong>are</strong><strong>a</strong><strong>s at </strong>Assiut governorate. The results indicated a significant elevation in fluoride levels in water, feedstuffs and meat in three investigated areas (Manqubad, Abnoub and El-Wasta). High levels of calcium and phosphours were recorded in kidney. Also sodium and potassium levels in the kidney showed the same behaviour.
A lower levels of both calcium and phosphorus were recorded in muscles and liver of cattles in the three affected areas (Manqubad, Abnoub and El-Wasta).

Clinical, bacteriological and postmortem investigations were applied on 30 newlyborm frezian calves suffering from pneumoenteritis in Bani-Mor friezian farm. The study revealed that E.Coli; Pasteurella; Staphylococci; Streptococci; Klebsiella ozaene; Citrobacter freundii; Enterobacter aerogenes and Enterobacter cloacae species were associated with this problem. Using invivo and invitro sensitivity tests, it was shown that Kanamycin injection in a dose of 5 mg/kg.b.wt. twice daily was very efficient in controlling such cases. The study revealed also that the use of Enterotube 11 Roche for the diagnosis of Enterobacteriaece infection was very helpful in reduc
ing time and costs.

Surgical anatomy of the tarsal region with special reference to the cunean tendon was studied on 10 fresh specimens of pelvic limbs in donkeys. Cunean tenectomy was performed on 10 donkeys devided into 2 groups with two different methods of surgical approaches. The oblique approach was found more better than vertical one. A maximal resection for the tendon was performed through the oblique approach (4 cm) which is consid ered very essential for successful operation for treatment of bone spavin in donkeys.

In the present work, the most common dental affections were recorded in large ruminants in twenty nine cases, including brown teeth, diastasis dentium, rotation of the rostral teeth, dental calculus, sharp enamel points, enamel flecks, false polyodontia and prognathism. Many dental affections in ruminants had no bad effect on the animal. Other produce severe pain to the patient animal and subsequently lead to complications. The later affections could be treated surgically in routine proceedures.

Medial patellar desmotomy was performed on one (treated) hindlimb and
operation on the other (control) hindlimb, of six normal donkeys. a sham The donkeys were examined for lameness before media! patellar desmotomy and at months 1, 2 and 3. The femoro patellar joints were examined radio
graphically at month 3. Post-mortem examination of the femoropatellar joints was performed immediately after euthanasia at month 3. All donkeys were lame on the treated limb at months 1, <em>2 </em>or 3. Radiographic changes, inculding fragments formation at the distal aspect of the patella and bone production at the attachment of the middle patellar ligament on the patella, were present in 5 donkeys at month 3. Postmorte<strong>m </strong><strong>examination </strong><strong>revealed </strong>articular cartilage fibrillatio<strong>n </strong><strong>o</strong><strong>r </strong><strong>det</strong><strong>achment </strong><strong>on </strong><strong>t</strong><strong>h</strong><strong>e </strong><strong>patellas </strong><strong>o</strong><strong>f </strong><strong>al</strong><strong>l </strong><strong>treated </strong>limbs. The control limbs were clinically and radiographically normal through out the study. Postmortem examination of the control l<strong>i</strong><strong>mbs </strong><strong>re</strong><strong>vealed </strong><strong>no </strong>pathological changes on the patellas of all animals. Medial p < strong>ate</strong><strong>l</strong><strong>lar </strong><strong>desmot </strong>omy results in pathological changes in the articu<strong>lar </strong><strong>cartilage </strong><strong>of </strong><strong>the </strong><strong>patella </strong>and adjacent soft tissues. <em>2</em>4 healthy mature native male dogs were divided into four groups. The first group was subjected to castration by prescrotal approach, the second group by postscrotal approach, the third group by scrotal ablasion and the last group by the classical method of open castration. The time of operation, postoperative complications, time of clinical healing and cosmetic apearance postoperatively were recorded. Results indicated that prescrotal approach was the most suitable technicue for castration of healthy animals. Scrotal ablasion is an alternative technique in cases of pathological condition of the testicles and scrotum.

In six adult goats, the motility pattern of the stomach and the proximal part of the duodenum was studied by means of electro-myography. Special attention was paid to the motility at the fundus and pyloric antrum of <strong>the </strong><strong>a</strong><strong>b</strong><strong>omasum</strong><strong>. </strong>
Normally the myo-electrical contractions of the fundus and pyloric antrum <strong>are </strong>more stronger than that of the other gastric compartements. In this study, it was found that the amplitude and duration of the spiking activity at gastro-intestinal tract following inflation of a rubber balloon inside the abomasum varied from one organ to another. The motility was low and all organs of the digestive tract, which decreased in the frequency in were sélected to study.Fundus and pyloric antrum of the abomasum were greatly affected during abomasal distension. Migrating myo-electrical activity returned to the normal pattern, just after removal of the abomasal inflation strimulus.

A number of twenty dogs were used to evaluate clinically and histopatholo gically the coated polyglycolic acid (Dexon plus) in comparison to catgut as suture materials for the urinary bladder closure.
The study revealed that the tissue drag and cutting which were serious drawbacks for the non coated polyglycolic acid did not occur when the coated material was used. The tissue reaction was mild towards coated polyglycolic acid in comparison to catgut which stimulated a chronic type of reaction. This may confirm that the coat improves the clinical charac ters of the suture material without inducing a pronounced tissue reaction.

IN-VITRO: Sensitivity tests of pasteurella anatipestifer (PA) serotypes 2, 3 and 5 to 24 antimicrobial agents proved that all tes<strong>te</strong><strong>d </strong><strong>s</strong><strong>e</strong><strong>r</strong><strong>otypes </strong>were highly sensitive to Flumequine and Oxalinic acid.
Flumequine was tested for therapeutic efficacy against PA serotype "3" in ducklings. The efficacy of the drug was evaluated according to clinical signs, survival rates and frequency of isolation from different organs follow ing challenge.
IN-VIVO: Flumequine used either before, during or after experimental infection significantly prevented the appearance of both clinical signs and lesions of the disease and reduced the rate of reisolation of PA when compared with untreated birds. Lactose gave similar results like flumequine when given in drinking water at a rate of 2.5%.
